Shiebler Etruscan Medallion Homeric Pattern 14k, Gilt & Sterling Silver
George W. Shiebler Co. of New York, New York (1892-1915) was one of the very first silversmith designers to use a neo-classical Greco-Roman style motif with busts of warriors, men and women in his silver designs in flatware, hollowware and jewelry. He called the pattern "Homeric" and it is often refered to also as "Etruscan Medallion." His particular design style had a "salvaged" look based on the archaeological excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum. Irregular "broken off" bits and allover spot hammering made the pieces have a look of the destructive power of hot ash and falling masonry. Not much of this line was made and today these pieces fetch very good money. The pieces are unique in that they combine both sterling silver and either 14k Gold or a gold gilt accent.

Homeric Etruscan Medallion Flatware and Hollowware is worth $150 to $700 per troy ounce.
A plain item with a medallion head/bust on it will be worth more in the lower range. A more ornate serving piece will be worth around $250-$300 per troy ounce. Any piece that has a gilt head/bust or is marked 14k Gold on the back will have a tendency to be more in the higher range depending on how ornate, opplulent and stylized it appears to be.

Jewelry items (since they are usually lighter) are typcially worth a little more money per troy ounce and in the range of $300-$1,000 per troy ounce. The values depend on the back stamp (if marked 14k or not.) Also, worth is measured by uniqueness and how embellished with medallions the piece is.
Conclusion: Although these pieces are not made of solid gold, they are still quite valuable. The jewelry pieces present well when worn and have that look and feel of a fine gold piece. If you want jewelry, flatware or hollowware that has a Greco-Roman antiquities look, then George W. Shiebler's Homeric Etruscan Medallion pattern is for you!
