In year 2007, we visited the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa, Canada. During our visit we had the rare pleasure of seeing on display a 100 Kilogram Gold Canadian Maple Coin. The staff told us that they are seldom on display.
The coin weighs 100 kilograms which equates to 3,215.07 troy ounces. In today's market with gold being $2,400 per troy ounce this would make the coin worth a staggering $7,716,168.00 U.S. Dollars.
When we visited in year 2007 gold was only at $696.43 per troy ounce which made the coin valued at $2,229,425 at that time. Wished we had bought it and could have made an almost whopping 4x return on investment.
I'm not sure how the coin is transported since it weighs 220.462 pounds. Would definitely take a couple of really strong men or women to pack it up into a special crate and a big moving truck for certain, if not an armored vehicle.
